Araí Moleri

(Uruguay)

Araí Moleri, photographer and retoucher from Montevideo, based in Berlin. With a BA in Design and studies in Visual Arts.

Since 2009, she has collaborated with street art collectives, documented women's issues, and explored themes of migration and gender in relation with the space.

ABOUT THE WORK

In 2013, she held her first solo exhibition, “Múltiples,” at the Arte Viaja gallery in Montevideo, exploring the repetitions of our life routines in places, represented in a symbolic way.

Since 2014, she has collaborated with the street art collective “Colectivo Licuado,” creating photos for their realistic paintings around the world.

In 2016, she started creating the series “manifestaciones oníricas” inspired by the influence of psycho-magical beliefs in Latin America and the feeling of mystical experience.

In 2017, as part of the movie “As Mil Mulheres,” she documented women in vulnerable situations in Rio de Janeiro's jails and favelas alongside mural artist Florencia Durán Itzaina.

Since moving to Berlin in 2018, she explores the topics of women’s, migration, gender, and the space in relation with the human experience.

In 2024, she was a finalist for the Ibero-American Federico García Lorca Award, with an exhibition at the Spanish Cultural Center in Montevideo, showcasing a selection of portraits of a non-binary person taken over the past five years in different stages.

Her photography is a portal to memories, moments, atmospheres, people, and places. Delving into the intimacy of the people she portrays and the mysticism of simple things in life.

Actually she is working on a photo book together with the writer Lucía Cash, in relation with the topics of migration and the feeling of home
