ABOUT THE ARTIST

Belen Majdalani

(Argentina)

With photography, I generate analogies, crossed concepts and visual parallelism, to unify worlds and situations that are desvinculated and disintegrated; building connections and relations to show that there exist similarities between what we think is different.

I focus in spontaneity, cotidianity and in reflecting ordinary situations in a particular way, aiming to make the ordinary extraordinary, with direct shoot photography.

Integration, equality, nature, migration, diversity, gentrification are some concepts I work on with a reflexive view.

My projects were exhibited in galleries and exhibitions in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Brazil, Russia, Mar del Plata, Uruguay and happily selected in competitions and publications.

EXHIBITED ART

“Bridges to borders”

The photographs were taken at the Berlin Wall and the sky that surrounds it. A conceptual and visual analogy in diptychs as a meeting point between two border limits: a wall as a formal limit and the sky as a symbolic limit; both of freedom, life and death; It shows us that what divides also unites or can be united.

At the same time, this year, the work adds in its concept to the celebration of unity between Germany and Argentina in their 200 years of friendship in relation to migration, also celebrating 31 years of brotherhood between the city of Berlin and Buenos Aires.

 "Identidades en tránsito"

The series reflects a transitory moment between the destruction for the reconstruction of houses.

A mutation of the physical aspect of the city is visualized; it changes its property and its identity by migratory, economic or modernist effect.

The record belongs to a moment of urban transformations, due to migration, gentrification, in different cities that share the change of identity.

Where there was a house inhabited by a family, there is now a building where different homes and realities begin to interact.

The images belong to a series that is constantly under construction.
