Psychedelic Zoo

A Watercolor Laboratory
Location B23, Greifswalder Straße 23, 10405 Berlin, Germany View on Google Maps

Psychedelic Zoo is a 3-hour class with the aim of guiding you into the world of watercolor through a creative and explorative approach.

Opening with a 1-hour introduction to the very basics of the technique, this class is suitable for absolute beginners as well as intermediate artists looking to deepen their practice or give it a more experimental style.

We move progressively from abstract blobs painted during the introduction into the figures of animals and insects, while keeping a playful approach. The intention of the class is not to achieve a naturalistic depiction, but rather to approach motifs and material with curiosity, connecting with our playful side.

Animals and insects serve as a reference and guideline (as well as an excuse!) to mix colors and let them flow in the water — the perfect ice-breaker for those who take watercolor too seriously.

Art Supplies

Participants had the option to attend with or without art supplies. For those bringing their own materials, the kit included:

  • 1 watercolor palette (minimum 12 colors — recommended: Van Gogh / Royal Talens, Winsor & Newton, Schmincke)
  • 2 watercolor brushes (sizes 6–8 and 10–12)
  • 4 sheets of A4 watercolor paper (300 g/m²)

“The motto of this workshop is to enjoy. There is no right or wrong. Whatever you do, you understand something new. Watercolor is about water and colors flowing together… Maybe it could be as simple as that.”
