Fiber Artist & Architect

About the Artist

Javiera González Zarzar (b. 1984, Santiago) is an architect and emerging artist. She teaches architecture at the Universidad Gabriela Mistral in Santiago and is pursuing her doctorate at the Technische Universität Berlin.

A former German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship recipient, she has lived in Berlin since 2016. Her artistic practice began in Berlin, influenced by her architectural background and Palestinian heritage, participating in exhibitions across Berlin and South Korea.

About the Work

Growing up within the Palestinian community in Chile, known for its rich tradition in textile production, I developed an early interest in crafting with textiles, often utilizing materials found in my household. My architectural studies further sparked my fascination with modern art and the integration of art and architecture.

In my practice, I focus on using color and contrasting materials to create a tactile, three-dimensional aesthetic, merging the aesthetic experiences of both optical and textile art.
