The visible part of an iceberg is enormous, incredibly beautiful, and powerful. Yet, approximately ninety percent of it is hidden below the waterline. In December, the month of our first anniversary, with a selection of artists from our community, we will celebrate everything we have achieved so far, the visible part, but we will also celebrate all that is still unseen, what remains to be discovered. ALTERFOCUS, is a platform that aims to link the Latin American community living in Berlin through art & culture. We will celebrate one year since our inauguration.<\/span><\/p>\n

In our anniversary month, we will celebrate our birthday with the event <\/span>\u201cTip Of The Iceberg\u201d<\/strong> on December 4th from 5 p.m. at GlogauAir. It will consist of an exhibition of more than 8 artists from our Alterfocus community<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What’s Alterfocus?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Coming from the two Latin words <\/span>Alter<\/strong> <\/span>(adj. \u201cother\u201d)<\/em> and <\/span>Focus<\/strong> <\/span>(noun, \u201cfire\/home\u201d)<\/em>, our name was inspired by the fact that all of the Latin Americans in Berlin have found a new home here, another home. This is something that connects all of us together as a common ground.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Alterfocus was born from our conviction that <\/span>the artistic process is enhanced when it is thought of as a combination of knowledge and talents in a collaborative effort, rather than an individual and solitary act<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

With this perspective we achieve a more real and holistic vision and<\/span> <\/strong>that is why <\/span>not only artists interact here, but also the entire Latino community <\/strong>that through their profession (such as producers, cultural managers, journalists, technicians, web programmers, translators, copywriters, community managers, set designers, lighting designers, etc.) want to participate and get involved in artistic and cultural projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

In our case, as immigrants, far from our homes for varied reasons, we believe that cooperation and help among the community not only enhances our artistic work but also our inclusion as inhabitants of a city that, at times, can be a bit hostile.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Here we offer an inclusive space and support where all people are welcome regardless of characteristics such as gender, age, origin, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability or sexual orientation.<\/span><\/p>\n

A home for the Latin American community that for various reasons chose Berlin as their \u201cother home\u201d<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

With his aerial photograph \u201cPartido\u201d, he became the winner of the 3rd acquisition prize of the Ita\u00fa Visual Arts Awards, in its 2019-2020 edition. She is a singer, actress and vocal therapist. Her training as an actress and her work as a jazz singer led her to live in cities such as Los Angeles, Tokyo and now Berlin. She is working on the release of her second album\/project, “El Camello, el Le\u00f3n y el Ni\u00f1o<\/span>“, a dialogue between 7 of her own compositions recorded in 2019 – and considered “oracular” by the artist – that tell a transformation, and a record of her own mutations since her trip to Japan in 2020 until now. Parallel to her performative work, she investigates the relationship between emotion, energy, sound and voice, and trains as a sound therapist, using vocal sounds as a main healing tool and as a way to regain the independence of one’s own body.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

She is a journalist and curator who is specialized in crafts and design, graduated in journalism at the Facultad de Ciencias de la Comunicaci\u00f3n, Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires and did her Master’s degree in Communication Design at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. <\/p>\n

Over the past 25 years, she has been publishing in various magazines and newspaper as <\/p>\n

well as participating in TV broadcasting. Since 2000 she has been the editor of the design section from the renowned newspaper P\u00e1gina 12 and also for the Barz\u00f3n magazine. <\/p>\n

As a curator, she has put together exhibitions for the Mad Museum and Wanted Design in New York, the V&A Museum and the London Design Fair in London, the Saint Etienne Biennale in France, the Malba Museum in Buenos Aires and the Museu da Casa Brasileira and Casa do Objeto Brasileiro in Sao Paulo.<\/p>\n

She is also the author of El Alma de los Objetos. Una Mirada Antropol\u00f3gica del Dise\u00f1o, dited by Paid\u00f3s and Mastercraft. La Importancia de Trabajar con las Manos, edited by Penguin Random House.<\/p>\n

She also runs Atico de Dise\u00f1o, a renown institution for workshops and conferences of various <\/p>\n

The work of the Argentinian artist, Sofia Nordmann, talks about the part of reality which is hidden for our eyes. Behind each visible thing there is a much larger invisible universe of meaning and significance, history and physics. Even if we are not able to see it, we know that it exists. Destroying her paintings, texts, symbols and photographs, she uses the remains of her work as material to create something new. Paulrhythms is the musical playground of Berlin-based singer-songwriter and producer Paul Hoyle G. <\/span><\/p>\n

Influenced by artists like Bon Iver, Ben Howard and Jos\u00e9 Gonz\u00e1lez, the Peruvian musician has shared the stage with Donavon Frankenreiter, Jenny Berggren (Ace of Base) and recognised Peruvian artists like We The Lion and Laguna Pai . Hoyle\u2019s first instrument, the Cajon, birthed his love for AfroPeruvian beats and musical nuance. Since, he has shared his craft on stages in Thailand, Mexico, Germany, United States and a number of venues throughout Per\u00fa. <\/span><\/p>\n

Oscillating between folk, jazz and indie influences, Paulrhythms explores the evolution of AfroPeruvian beats in his compositions and arrangements. After his first LP \u201cTiempo Libre” (2018), Hoyle moved to the magnetic city of Berlin and has since been touring Germany. <\/span><\/p>\n

During 2020 he became part of “Out Of Time Embassy\u201d Collective organisation as bass player and producer. This collective includes artists like dumama + kechou, Abas\u00e9 and Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

She is an industrial designer and is currently studying architecture in Berlin. However, music has always been a fundamental part of her life. She studied lyrical singing as a teenager and learned to play guitar in a self-taught way. She is a Peruvian Quechua researcher and interdisciplinary artist with experience in decolonial art projects and research on Andean culture in Peru, migrant groups, memory culture, cultural management, mediation, intercultural pedagogy and participatory art. She works with communities and environmental and cultural activists. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine and Plastic Arts, specializing in Sculpture and Interdisciplinary Arts.
